My connection to nature began, as it does for so many of us, when I was very small. I vividly remember visiting my grandad, who kept an incredible garden. I would spend hours surrounded by his spectacular blooms and plants, learning and marvelling at the chaotic beauty of it all. The first time I pulled a carrot straight from the ground and ate it, nothing had ever tasted so delicious to me and is something I look forward to every year.
I am very fortunate that connecting deeply with nature, be it exploring the open countryside on horseback or gardening with my grandad, has always been part of my life. When I did my degree in Craft Design, gardening was the summer job I always looked forward to; when I lived in London with a successful career in corporate services, escaping to the countryside was the relief that kept me sane. I have also always been involved in environmental and sustainability projects, which embedded that as a passion for me.
Eventually, it became obvious to me that working in nature couldn’t be a hobby – it had to be my life. I moved to Brighton, where I retrained in Horticulture, Garden Design & Permaculture, learning the useful theory behind what had always previously been intuitive.
With my skills and experience, I set up Your Garden Coach, offering service which range from collaborative garden design to coaching. My aim is always to enable people to have the same incredible experience working with nature that I have enjoyed.
In my spare time I ride my lovely horse called Flash, and manage a polytunnel which grows vegetables for the community.
I hope that gives you some insight into who I am, and why I set up Your Garden Coach.
