 Why Garden?

The Earth’s biodiversity has been what’s kept our planet in balance for millennia.

Our massive rain forests produce oxygen and generate rain to support climatic systems and the polar ice caps and giant oceans help cool and regulate temperatures. Due to human impact and the use of our world’s resources in an unsustainable manner, the world ecosystem is no longer in balance. We are now collectively feeling the results of burning unimaginable amounts of fossil fuels.  Depleting  in just one life time, resources it took millions of years for the world to produce. And on top of this we have cleared around 50% of the world’s forests. The carbon, once stored away in land and trees, is now in our atmosphere and we are feeling the effect as temperatures are rising and a global ripple effect is being felt.

So much of what is happening feels out of our control, and it is. But what’s happening on our doorsteps, in our gardens and in our local community is. Understanding our seasons, nature’s incredible cycles and how to support these to enhance local biodiversity and wildlife is something we can all learn and enjoy. In return, we can feel the incredible effects of engaging with nature. Understanding where our food comes from, growing our own, shopping locally and providing habitats for local pollinators are a necessity if we wish for many more generations to enjoy life and our planet as we have.
